Bridal Makeup Timeline for the Wedding Morning

How long bridal makeup really takes, when to start, and an hour-by-hour wedding-morning timeline so you are ready, relaxed and on time for your entry.

The most stressful wedding mornings I’ve seen weren’t about makeup at all — they were about time. A photographer waiting, a relative rushing in, the baraat arriving earlier than expected. A clear timeline fixes almost all of it.

Here is how I plan a bride’s getting-ready schedule, and how you can plan yours.

How long does bridal makeup take?

For a complete bridal look — skin prep, HD or airbrush base, eyes, lashes, hairstyling, draping, and jewellery and dupatta setting — plan for about 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Heavier hairstyles, double dupattas or a lot of jewellery push it toward the longer end.

Party makeup for family members takes about 60–90 minutes per person, which is why booking a team matters on the wedding day.

Work backwards from your entry

Don’t start with “what time will the artist come?” Start with the moment you need to be fully ready — usually 30–45 minutes before the photographer’s bridal portraits, or before you leave for the venue — and work backwards.

A sample timeline (entry at 8:00 pm)

Time What happens
2:30 pm Light meal, hydrate, skin cleansed and moisturised
3:00 pm Artist arrives, sets up near natural light
3:15 pm Skin prep and base
4:15 pm Eyes, lashes, contour, lips
5:00 pm Hairstyling and accessory setting
5:45 pm Outfit on, draping, jewellery and dupatta setting
6:30 pm Final checks, touch-ups, bridal portraits
7:15 pm Buffer for delays — family photos, a breather
8:00 pm Entry

That 45-minute buffer is not optional. Something always runs late.

Morning or day pheras?

For early muhurats, the same math applies — it just starts earlier. If your pheras are at 10 am, your artist may need to begin at 5:30 or 6 am. Tell your makeup artist your exact muhurat when you book, so the team can be scheduled properly.

Who goes first?

If family members are also getting ready, the bride usually goes first or in the middle — never last. Your look takes the longest and needs the most care. With a team, the bride can be with the lead artist while mothers and sisters are done in parallel. At GlamParul, we’re a team of 10, so we plan this together with you.

Set up the room the night before

  • A chair near a window or good light, and a plug point nearby
  • Your outfit, dupatta, jewellery, maang-tikka, kaleere and safety pins laid out
  • A front-open shirt to wear during makeup
  • Water with a straw, tissues and a light snack
  • A “no-entry” rule for anyone who doesn’t need to be in the room

Getting ready at a hotel or venue?

Share the location pin, the room number and the reception contact in advance. For venues in Gurugram or Delhi, we plan departure from Faridabad with a traffic buffer and confirm the reporting time a day before.

The last 15 minutes

This is when I check every angle — the dupatta drape from the back, the jewellery in photos, the lipstick under flash. It’s also when brides finally take a breath. Protect those 15 minutes.
